1441 Bolyai
1441 Bolyai, provisional designation 1937 WA, is a somewhat eccentric, stony asteroid from the middle region of the asteroid belt, about 15 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered by Hungarian astronomer György Kulin at the Konkoly Observatory in Budapest on 26 November 1937.〔 The assumed S-type asteroid orbits the Sun at a distance of 2.0–3.3 AU once every 4 years and 3 months (1,561 days). Its orbit shows a notable eccentricity of 0.24 and is tilted by 14 degrees to the plane of the ecliptic. It has a low geometric albedo of 0.05,〔〔 measured by the IRAS and WISE surveys, which is typical for a carbonaceous rather than a silicaceous asteroid, as assumed by the Collaborative Asteroid Lightcurve Link.〔 Its rotation period remains unknown. The minor planet was named after the Hungarian mathematician János Bolyai (1802–1860), a co-founder of non-Euclidean geometry in the early 19th century.〔 == References ==
